The New Year is here, and with that comes new resolutions! Who can relate though– often sudden steadfast resolve can quickly give way to abandonment. Here are 5 skincare resolutions you should strive to stick to if you aren’t doing them already:
- Drink more water
Drinking an adequate amount of water is important for the health of your entire body, not just your skin. Even mild dehydration can lead to lapses in memory and fatigue. Hydrate yourself and your skin by drinking at least 8 cups of water daily. Water consumption plumps skin and can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Wash your face routinely
No matter how tired, you should always make time to wash your face daily, especially at night. During the day, environmental pollution, and excess oil accumulate on your face. If you wear it, makeup also can contribute to pore-clogging debris. Washing your face nightly helps to keep your skin clear and protect it from premature aging.
- Exfoliate once a week
It’s essential to exfoliate at least once a week to encourage cell renewal and maintain a radiant complexion. Using an exfoliant stimulates the production of collagen and elastin– the integral proteins that comprise our skin’s structure. Preservation and promotion of collagen and elastin are essential in order to maintain youthful skin.
- Change your pillowcases more often
Pillowcases collect a buildup of oil from your face and hair products, which can lead to acne. If you notice recurrent breakouts on the sides of your face, your case could be the culprit. If you find yourself short on time for regular washing you can place a clean T-shirt over your pillow instead.
- Wear SPF
Although this one shouldn’t be a resolution (You should already be wearing at least SPF 30 daily), it’s never too late to start. SPF protects your skin from UV rays that cause cellular damage that lead premature aging and can cause cancer.
